Menopause is when periods stop for good, usually between the ages of 45 and 55. The years leading up to it are known as perimenopause, and symptoms can begin months or even years beforehand. Menopause can also happen earlier, naturally or as a result of medical treatment or surgery. Everyone's experience is different. Some people notice very little, while for others the changes can feel overwhelming. The Emotional Side of the Menopause Hormonal changes can have a real impact on mental and emotional wellbeing. 11th September 2026 Emergency Services Day (999 Day) Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day , recognises the incredible dedication of the people who protect, care for and support our communities every day. It is a time to thank the NHS, ambulance services, police, fire and rescue services, coastguard, search and rescue teams, mountain rescue volunteers, lifeboat crews, and all those who work tirelessly to help others in times of crisis. For many people around the world, 11th September is also a day of remembrance. It is an opportunity to reflect on the resilience shown by emergency responders and communities in the face of tragedy, while recognising the lasting emotional impact that traumatic events can have on individuals and families. GCSE Results Day is Thursday 20 August, and whatever your results, remember, one set of grades does not define who you are or what you can achieve. Results Day can bring lots of different emotions. You might feel excited, nervous, proud, disappointed, relieved, or a mixture of everything. Whatever you’re feeling, remember it’s okay . Be Proud of Yourself If you achieve the results you were hoping for, congratulations! Take a moment to recognise the hard work, determination and effort that got you here. Whether you’re moving on to sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, training or employment, this is the beginning of your next chapter. And if you aren’t completely sure what you want to do next, that’s okay too. You don’t have to have your whole future planned at the age of 16. If Things Didn’t Go to Plan If your results aren’t what you hoped for, please don’t think that this means you’ve failed. There may be different options available, including speaking with your school or college, looking at alternative courses, resits, apprenticeships, training or other pathways. Raising Awareness, Reducing Stigma, Supporting Better Health Every year on 28 July , World Hepatitis Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, encourage testing, reduce stigma, and ensure that people affected know they are not alone. Millions of people around the world are living with hepatitis, and many don’t realise they have it. For many young people, finishing school at 16 is something they have counted down to for years. Exams are over, uniforms are no longer needed, and there’s often a sense that freedom has finally arrived. But alongside excitement, many young people also experience something they weren’t expecting uncertainty, sadness, pressure, and even grief. We at Positive-Talk Counselling and Support Services believe leaving school is a much bigger life change than people often realise. The End of a Routine You’ve Known Since Age Four From around the age of four, school becomes one of life’s biggest constants for our children and Young People . Weekdays follow a familiar structure. There are timetables, teachers, friendship groups, lunch breaks, terms, holidays, and expectations. Even on difficult days, there’s comfort in knowing what comes next. Then suddenly, it stops. No alarm for registration. No familiar corridors. No seeing the same faces every day. For some Young People , this change feels exciting. For others, the sudden loss of routine can feel unsettling and leave them feeling unmotivated, lost, anxious, or unsure of themselves. This doesn’t mean something is wrong it means they are adjusting. The Pressure of Deciding “What’s Next?” At 16, Young People are often expected to make decisions that can feel enormous. Should I stay in education? Do I choose sixth form? College? An apprenticeship? Do I already need to know what career I want? These questions can feel overwhelming, particularly when everyone else seems to have a plan. The reality is that very few people have everything figured out at 16. Exploring options, changing direction, and discovering new interests are all part of growing up. There isn’t one perfect path there are many ways forward. Missing Teachers More Than Expected One part of leaving school that often catches Young People by surprise is how emotional it can feel saying goodbye to teachers. Teachers are more than educators. Over the years they often become trusted adults, familiar faces, encouragers, and people who provide consistency. Some Young People may feel upset knowing they won’t see those teachers again.
