World Hepatitis Day July 2026
Raising Awareness, Reducing Stigma, Supporting Better Health
Every year on
28 July, World Hepatitis Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, encourage testing, reduce stigma, and ensure that people affected know they are not alone.
Millions of people around the world are living with hepatitis, and many don’t realise they have it. Early diagnosis, access to treatment, and emotional support can make a significant difference to both health outcomes and quality of life.
At
Positive-Talk
Counselling and Support Services
, we understand that living with or being diagnosed with hepatitis can bring uncertainty,
anxiety , and many questions. We are committed to providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where individuals can access emotional support.
What is Hepatitis?
Hepatitis refers to inflammation of the liver. There are several different types, but the most common viral forms are Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. While they all affect the liver, they differ in how they are transmitted, treated, and prevented.
Some forms are short-term and resolve without lasting effects, while others can become chronic and lead to serious liver disease if left untreated.
The good news is that:
- Hepatitis A and B can be prevented through vaccination.
- Hepatitis C is now curable for most people with modern antiviral treatments.
- Early testing and treatment significantly improve health outcomes.
Why Awareness Matters
Many people with hepatitis experience no symptoms for years. This means they may not seek testing until liver damage has already occurred.
Increasing awareness helps people:
- Understand their risk.
- Access testing earlier.
- Receive effective treatment.
- Protect those around them.
- Reduce the stigma often associated with hepatitis.
No one should feel ashamed of seeking help or asking questions about their health.
The Emotional Impact
Receiving a diagnosis can affect much more than physical health.
People may experience:
- Anxiety or worry about the future.
- Fear of discrimination.
- Isolation.
- Concerns about relationships and family.
- Stress around treatment or disclosure.
Emotional wellbeing is an important part of living well with any long-term health condition.
How
Positive-Talk
Counselling and Support Services
Can Help
At Positive Talk Services, we believe that every individual deserves compassionate, person-centred support.
We offer:
- A confidential and welcoming environment.
- Emotional support following diagnosis.
- Information to help people understand hepatitis and available treatment options.
- Signposting to specialist healthcare services.
- Support to reduce feelings of isolation and stigma.
- Encouragement to access testing, treatment, and ongoing care.
Whether someone has recently been diagnosed, has been living with hepatitis for many years, or is supporting a loved one, we are here to listen without judgement.
Breaking the Stigma
Stigma remains one of the biggest barriers preventing people from seeking testing and treatment.
World Hepatitis Day reminds us that hepatitis is a health condition—not a reflection of someone’s character or lifestyle.
By talking openly, sharing accurate information, and treating everyone with dignity and respect, we can help create communities where people feel safe accessing support.
This World Hepatitis Day
Take a moment to:
- Learn about hepatitis.
- Encourage testing if you or someone you know may be at risk.
- Share reliable information.
- Support those living with hepatitis.
- Challenge stigma whenever you encounter it.
Together, we can help ensure more people receive the care, treatment, and emotional support they deserve.
